Cyclone Jasper

G'day all,

Cyclone Jasper is expected to cross the coast near Cairns sometime on Wednesday.

For those new to Carpentaria, I know this might be an anxious time and that's okay. For those who have been a round a bit, it's always easy to get a bit complacent. But remember, its not the wind that is often our worry, but the flooding and storm surge, particularly if the arrival of a cyclone coincides with the high tide. And no-one enjoys a tropical far-north night with no airconditioning when the power goes out!

So, make sure you are well prepared. Have plenty of water, some food stock, torches, batteries and a radio. Check on your neighbours and family (including your church family). If you feel better being with others, now is a good time to gather for a good old NQ cyclone party....in a safe space. There is always comfort to be found in a group. If you are in the Cairns area, there is always a bed available on the Atherton Tablelands where the effects will be less dramatic. Give me a call on 0409 276 940 if you want to get out of the firing line. Or reach out to any of the ministers down south in Townsville. Let's be there for each other.

The Presbytery does a few generators if required. But, remember, these will only power a fridge and a fan. Don't expect a generator for your whole house or church.

Anyway, be a prayer for those who may be directly impacted this week and for those far away who are often deeply concerned about us.

Stay safe.

Blessings

Garry
